Christmas Day alcohol sales ban lifted in Indiana, Sunday sales still illegal

Hoosiers who want to purchase alcohol on Christmas will be able to do so starting this year.

The Indiana legislature lifted a ban that made it illegal to sell alcohol between 3 a.m. Dec. 25 and 7 a.m. Dec. 26., according to the IndyStar. Effective July 1, the ban is lifted.

If Christmas falls on a Sunday, however, the Sunday sales ban takes precedence. Christmas 2015 is on a Friday, but Christmas 2016 falls on a Sunday.

There was a bill on the state legislature that would have lifted the ban on Sunday sales, but it was never called to a vote, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.  The state legislature adjourned in April.
