John Kasich is 5th presidential candidate who plans to speak at Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (AP) — Ohio Gov. John Kasich is scheduled to speak at a Republican gathering in Michigan in September.

He’s the fifth presidential candidate announced as a speaker at the 31st Biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. The Sept. 18-20 event will occur six months before Michigan’s presidential primary.

Other speakers on Mackinac Island will include Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said Wednesday that Kasich is a “proven leader” who “understands the issues important to the Midwest.”
