Police have learned the identity of a man seriously injured when he was hit by a car while walking on Bendix Drive on Tuesday night, Feb. 16.

The 36-year-old South Bend man didn’t have identification on him when the crash happened, but officers were able to identify the victim after local media shared his description, Capt. Robert Hammer with the South Bend Police Department said. The man’s family positively identified him.

The man was hit by a car in the 2600 block of Bendix Drive in South Bend at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. He’s been in critical condition at a local hospital ever since.

The crash is still under investigation, but Hammer said police don’t believe speed or alcohol were factors.
