If you travel often between South Bend and New Carlisle, you’ll be happy to hear this.

INDOT crews say they are nearing the end of the viaduct resurfacing project that has shut down the part of U.S. 20 that leads into town.

The project was expected to have been finished before summer even began, but workers ran into more water under the road than expected, according to the South Bend Tribune. The area under the bridge has long been known for flooding issues during big storms.

It’s believed that the entire project could be completed now by the end of July, two months behind schedule. It was also delayed by an incident of vandalism involving one of their front-loaders.
