Second person within 4 days struck, killed by train in Mishawaka

Mishawaka Police are, once again, stressing to stay off the railroad tracks, as a second person within the past four days has been struck by a train.

Police were called around 8:10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, to the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, near the South Byrkit Street crossing.

Police say the train, traveling approximately 20 miles per hour, struck a male that appeared to be sitting on the tracks.

When first responders located the male, he was still breathing. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment in critical condition. He later died due to his injuries.

Mishawaka Police ask that anybody with information to contact their Detective Bureau at 574-258-1684.

These trains need to slow down! And stop blowing the whistles at 4am.

The train was going 20mph…how slow do you want them to go? How do you feel about High Speed Rail?

Maybe insane people should stay off the tracks.
