A man accused of sex crimes against children will not see any time in prison.

The Middlebury Police Department received a call from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office in April of 2023 reporting that two teens had been sexually abused by their adoptive family member.

59-year-old Stephen Trethewey was sentenced for sexual misconduct and child seduction to six years with four years served on community corrections and two years alternative placement on reporting probation.

Documents say both victims had sent letters to the judge asking that Trethewey not be incarcerated at the Indiana Department of Corrections. However, the judge told Trethewey that just because he is not serving prison time does not mean he is being given a break.
