Dowagiac crash claims one life, injures two others

A two-vehicle crash left one person dead and two others injured, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sep. 27, to the intersection of M-51 and Crystal Springs Street in Pokagon Township.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Steven Dodd, 52, of Niles, failed to stop at the stop sign at Crystal Springs Street and was struck by a southbound vehicle operated by a man from Sault Sainte Marie.

Dodd was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Dodd’s vehicle and the other driver were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
