New Carlisle, and all of Indiana, cut from list of possible Toyota-Mazda plant locations

New Carlisle will not be getting the much-hyped Toyota-Mazda plant…nor will any other Indiana site or any state north of the Mason-Dixon line.

St. Joseph County Economic Development Director Bill Schalliol told the South Bend Tribune that he learned Monday that Indiana was cut from the list of potential states the project could land in.

He says Toyota was concerned about the state’s workforce limiting potential employees as well as the potential for poaching workers from two other Toyota plants in the state in Columbus and Princeton.

The $1.6 billion plant will bring 4,000 jobs to wherever it lands, likely in the southern U.S. It’s not known exactly which states Toyota is targeting, but it’s believed the auto maker has narrowed its list to three states.
