If there has been on positive outcome of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s that animal shelters have seen major increase in pet adoptions.

At this time last year, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County reports it had 500 cats up for adoption. Right now, they have a total of 263 animals in the shelter, including both cats and dogs. 45 animals are also in foster care.

ABC 57 News reports Pet Refuge, a volunteer animal shelter in South Bend, has seen zero return rates on adopted animals. Vice President Nancy Whiteman credits the pandemic.
