Thursday is 5/25/17. The hockey jerseys that Nick and Jack Savage wore were 5 and 25. And the organization that honors their memory decided to spread some love and kindness around Michiana Thursday.
To honor their memories, some Good Samaritans with the 525 Foundation went around Michiana doing random acts of kindness for others. A woman helped bag groceries at a local Aldi’s after visiting Memorial Hospital and giving out Starbucks gift cards, hoping the recipients paid it forward.
One man, Pete Redden, was discovered by 95.3 MNC’s Casey Hendrickson at the Grape Road McDonalds in Mishawaka buying 25 sundaes to hand out to dining room customers.
“It’s important to remember the boys and to pay it forward and be kind to everyone else,” Redden told Hendrickson.
A McDonalds employees chipped in to buy some sundaes as well as give Redden a discount.
Prosecutors said Kyle Treber brought OxyContin, a brand name for oxycodone, to a house party in Granger on June 13, 2015. He was found passed out in the home on July 14 and was revived.
Brothers Nick and Jack Savage, who were 19 and 18 respectively, were found dead in their home the same morning. They both attended the party. Coroners ruled they died from a mixture of alcohol and oxycodone.
Since them, the 525 Foundation was formed to spread awareness about the effects of opioid abuse and to prevent another family from having to endure another such a tragedy.
