New Carlisle residents finally have their main artery into town back again.

INDOT announced that the U.S. 20 viaduct in New Carlisle has re-opened to traffic. The viaduct was last re-surfaced in 1996.

The project was expected to have been finished before summer even began, but workers ran into more water under the road than expected. The area under the bridge has long been known for flooding issues during big storms.

The project started in April, and INDOT admitted that unexpected delays halted the project in May and June. However, despite disruption to traffic and local emergency services, INDOT ways road crews worked seven days a week and between 12 to 18 hours daily to get the road fixed.
