REAL Services is collaborating with 1Roof Southeast Neighborhood Center to provide a monthly lunch and learn program aimed at sharing information and insights to area seniors.
Programs will be hosted on the fourth Friday of each month at 1Roof Southeast Neighborhood Center, 405 E. Dubail Ave., South Bend. While being focused on seniors, people of all ages are welcome to attend. The program is free to attend and free lunch will be provided.
“Helping to meet the needs of older adults, no matter who or where they are, is a critical part of our mission at REAL Services,” says Karla Ann Fales, president and CEO of REAL Services. “Our lunch and learn programs will help us create a space where older adults can come to learn about the things that are important to them. And maybe even ask questions they’re afraid to otherwise ask.”
The first lunch and learn program, “Don’t Be A Sitting Duck,” will focus on educating seniors about scams and schemes that target older adults. The event will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, and will be presented by Fales.
“Scammers, especially financial scammers, often target older adults because they believe they have money saved, and may be lonely and isolated,” she says. “We want to give our seniors the tools to spot a scam and avoid being taken advantage of.”
Here are a couple of the upcoming lunch and learn topics:
February: “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” — A discussion related to all things heart and blood health sponsored by the South Bend Medical Foundation.
March: “Nutrition Awareness” — REAL Services Nutrition Manager Crystal Hallwood will talk about proper nutrition for older adults.
Seating for lunch and learn program is limited, so reservations are required. Call 574-393-8809 ext. 1007 to reserve a seat.
